The Skellingtons with former FLAP frontman & trumpeter Eamon McNelis.
November 6 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
$8/$5 concession – Old Fashioned Jazz
Jazz isn’t dead – it’s undead! The Skellingtons is the spooky new offering from FLAP! frontman & trumpeter Eamon McNelis.
Back in Melbourne for only a few weeks, Eamon has been romping around Europe playing tuba with travelling circus. Come check out some of the new songs which, in his spare moments, he’s managed to scribble down on a paper napkin, or a badly smashed up iphone, or whatever else is at hand. It’s music full of treasures unearthed by digging through the bones of swing: irresistibly foot-stomping rhythms & virtuosic musicianship. Original songs inspired by music of the jazz ballrooms of the 1930’s.
Eamon McNelis – Trumpet & Vocals
Margie-Lou Dyer – Piano
Lyn Wallis – Drums
Chris Vizard – Trombone
Nick Pietsch – Trombone
“…Young Eamon McNelis is a trumpet player to look out for.” Coral Drouyn, Stagewhispers.com.au
“Melbourne trumpeter Eamon McNelis is superb…. his beautifully controlled horn sensitive with a singing quality” Kevin Jones, Limelight Magazine
“Trumpeter Eamon McNelis is a smallish, neatly made fellow. When the band hit their straps, swinging so hard in that way that is like no other, he seemed to rise out of himself while stamping like a pony.” John Clare, AustralianJazz.net
