The Knott Family Band come to Open Studio to launch their debut self-titled CD, ‘Knott Family Band’. The quartet features bluegrass and old-time influenced string band arrangements, four-part harmony and lyricism reflecting traditional and lived storytelling. With members connecting from Melbourne and rural Victoria, they play a repertoire that reflects traditional and contemporary influences from Bill Monroe to the Punch Brothers. The group comprises of Stephen Hornby on Double Bass, Lucy McKenzie-McHarg on Fiddle, Thomas Kendall on guitar and Vinny Russell on Mandolin.

Joining Knott Family Band on the night are The New Macedon Rangers. The New Macedon Rangers are a versatile acoustic duo comprised of Novocastrian Ashlee Watkins and North Carolinian Andrew Small. Their performances combine vibrant interpretations of early country, bluegrass, and old-time music with original songs and tunes on mandolin, fiddle, banjo, and guitar. Showcasing the 2015 Australian National Bluegrass Mandolin Champion, the duo has also won prizes at some of the most prestigious fiddlers’ conventions in the USA. Ashlee and Andrew recently toured Australia as members of the North Carolina-based old-time string band The Haywood Billy Goats. The duo has also recorded and produced albums for the Billy Goats as well as the Melbourne-based Flying Engine String Band.
