Dr Hernandez

  • February 23
  • Time: 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
  • When:
Dr Hernández prescribes a triple dose of electro-cumbia, funky reggae and soulful boogaloo Six all-star specialists bring together their disparate musical backgrounds in tex mex, afrobeat, salsa, film music, ska, soul, reggae and funk, to lay down some relaxed and rootsy dance grooves with Dr Hernández. The band gives a new twist to these traditions, combining traditional beats and Hammond-infused grooves with a three-piece horn section, percussion and Sally Ford’s trademark soaring Spanish vocals.  Dr Hernández will be playing tunes from their debut originals album “8 Remedios” along with classic afro-latin dance tunes.
Dr Hernández are Sally Ford (lead vocals, alto sax & flute), Patrick Cronin (trumpet, percussion & backing vocals), Michael Havir (keyboards & sfx), Catherine McQuade (bass & vocals), David Joseph (drum kit) and Peter Slipper (trombone). These musicians bring to the band their collective legacy of leading or performing with bands such as the ARIA-winning Melbourne Ska Orchestra, the Spaghetti Western Orchestra, Texicali Rose, Yothu Yindi, Sally Ford and the Pachuco Playboys, Joe Camilleri’s Black Sorrows, Deep Stree Soul, The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra, Frank Yamma, Skazz and Batacuda.
