Bowie Project with Bec Johnston & Mat Arter
Since its inception in 2014, The Bowie Project has been cherry picking David Bowie compositions from the entire breadth of his career and reinventing them as instrumental jazz. By removing Bowie himself, and even the lyrics, from the equation, bandleader Adam Rudegeair (PBS 106.7FM’s ‘Black Wax’, Lake Minnetonka) dives into deep explorations of the beauty, complexity, and swagger of Bowie’s compositional visions.
The Bowie Project’s first album launch was a sold-out performance at Stonnington Jazz Festival in 2015. Shortly after, they were invited to perform on the opening night of the ‘Bowie Is…’ exhibition at ACMI. The sophomore album ‘The Bowie Project 2: It’s Always Time’ was recorded live at the Paris Cat by legendary Melbourne producer Myles Mumford, with a n expanded horn section, and was launched in September 2018.
