APPALACHIAN HEAVEN STRINGBAND & Kimberley Wheeler and Friend.

May 1 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Born and raised in Australia on bush music, classical and pop, the members of Appalachian Heaven Stringband take their sustenance from the deep well of Anglo-Celtic ballads and tunes with African-American rhythms in the hard scrabble counties of West Virginia and parts of Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Maryland, North Carolina and South Carolina in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Kimberley Wheeler and Friend:

Her award winning original songs are lyrical and quirky. In 2015 Kimberley was awarded the Tilley’s Choice Award for ‘Watching Over Joan’.  Her songs cover life commentary and social issues, pure fun and some politics. In all of her music the melodies are compelling.  Her voice is in the alto range, rich and mellow, and is often compared to dark chocolate with its rich texture.
John Gray joins Kimberley as the other half of the duo. He played on the SA bluegrass and folk scene when he was in his 20’s and 30’s but pursue other endevours before coming out of early retirement to join Uncle Bill in recent years. He played in a band called Mississippi that was the precursor to the Little River Band and has recently played on the ‘Red Dog’ movie soundtrack.
