5-7 Elbury with guests Shannen James and Leadlight
August 19 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Shannen James (opener), Leadlight (main support)
Brisbane alt-folksters ELBURY are celebrating the release of their new album, Haunting Ground – the first full-length offering from the band – with a whirlwind east-coast tour this August and they’re hitting the Open Studio on Saturday 19 August! Long-time fringe-dwellers on the Brisbane live scene – with the introduction of bass, drums, keys and synth in recent years, the band have shifted from traditional acoustic folk to a darker alt-folk-rock sound, including progressive and ambient elements. The band frequently defy categorisation and move easily between mellow jazz interludes, rollicking folk-rock triumphs and intricate Baroque passages. They’re squeezing five people into an uncomfortably medium-sized car to bring the Elbury live show to Northcote – don’t miss out!!
Opening proceedings on the night will be Melbourne-born singer-songwriter, Shannen James. Shannen found a love for performing and singing at the young age of six. Throughout the following decades, her passion for music developed into a love for songwriting and melody. Her upcoming EP ‘Getaway’ is a nod to her individualised sound, melodic sensibility and features her youthful and coloured vocals. Crediting artists such as Fleetwood Mac and Jack Johnson for her ‘dreamy folk pop vibe’, Shannen’s EP will be released in September 2017 – don’t miss out on the chance to hear these tunes before they’re released into the wild!
Ably occupying the #2 spot on the bill will be Leadlight – a five-piece indie folk-rock band from Melbourne. Leadlight released their second LP in May 2017. Beautiful, lyrical folk-rock tunes – thoughtful and masterfully crafted. At the risk of sounding like a promo for a day-spa… indulge your senses. Go on!
