What people say about Open Studio!
“What an amazing space for live music. Located in the heart of Northcote on High St, Open Studio sports live music of varying styles and cultures. I had the pleasure of enjoying the Opa Balkan band and had the time of my life dancing. It motivated me also that the whole room was up dancing with me.
The interior sports a small charming bar with personality. Being served by James and Hannah was an absolute treat. Really lovely people who are personable and get the job done efficiently. There is a really cute beer garden in the back that sports intimate tables for sitting with company and larger tables up the back for groups.”
“I am an aspiring musical artist that looks forward to be able to perform for this amazing space for art and music one day!”
“This is a great venue for live gigs. They support a terrific range of emerging and semi-professional groups and have an amazing atmosphere for a small space. Great beer garden at the back and crepes and shall food menu”.
“A fantastic live music venue at a low price. This intimate location acts as a host to some of Melbourne’s finest jazz musicians of all age groups. Not only is the music superb but the crepes and drinks along with it are tasty and reasonably priced”.
“Brilliant little venue! My experience was their eagerness to give a new band a chance. (Midnight Bends). That kind of exposure for up and coming musicians in a cool but intimate venue (with beer garden out the back) is what Melbourne culture is all about. So much good music starts in this place”.
“Lovely place to catch up with friends, have a quiet drink (or a rowdy one!), whilst getting a chance to see some of the best music Melbourne has to offer… And delicious crepes too!”.
“Lolo Lovina were privileged enough to be invited down from Sydney to play for the 10th Anniversary of Open Studio this weekend! This was one of the best weekends I’ve had in a while with both our Friday and Saturday shows full of an audience that were really up for a good time. All of the other bands over the weekend were exceptional, the staff were fantastic and Tania was the perfect host! Looking at all the posters for upcoming gigs on the walls, it is very evident that these guys support quality live music in a very passionate way. It’s venues like this that give me so much pleasure playing music professionally so make sure you get yourselves down there and experience if for yourself! I’m really hopeful that we get invited back – I’d go back in a heartbeat. Thank you Open Studio for a fantastic weekend and here’s to the next 10 years!”.
“Played at Open Studio yesterday afternoon with Banbury Cross. Friendly staff, amazing crepes. Pleasure to play cozy folk to full tables then we stayed with the evening crowd for hot jazz with Shiraz 🙂 love this venue and its celebration of great music and local vibe!”.
“… No.86 tram will drop you right across the road from Open Studio, Northcote’s most entertainingly esoteric watering hole…”
“The room is overflowing with the kind of “vibe” that so many other bars are so desperate to harness” Clem Bestow – Epicure
“Open Studio in Northcote, Melbourne is one of those rare and intimate venues that finds a groovy niche and just keeps providing punters with a great night out based on a simple formula of unique gypsy bands, booze and crepes.” Flamenco Australia.
“High on the hill overlooking the city is this hidden little gem, a cultural melting pot for Northcote’s artists, poets and politically passionate residents…There are savoury and sweet crepes to delight your taste buds, and a simple selection of beer, wine and spirits to quench your thirst should some spirited gypsy dancing take your fancy.”
“.. The Open Studio is most definitely a hidden gem. It is the kind of place that invites you in as you walk by. It is not uncommon to hear happy music spilling out onto the streets, which invites you to look through the window…Just don’t expect any frills here, just a welcome vibe of a party in your best friend’s living room!”
